German translations of TechnoTma books available on Amazon.de!

Great news: two of the TechnoTma books, Password Eternity and The Wasteland Clans, have come out in German and are now available on Amazon.de. If you read German (I don't :)) you can pre-order both if you follow this link. Not sure about the cover of the first one, renamed Zeit der Dunkelheit, but it's up to the publisher, really. He sure knows what appeals to German readers.
The second book, The Wasteland Clans, or Das Wüste Land, is available for pre-order and is expected to come out on March 11 2013.

I'm very excited and curious to see the German readers' reactions... and hopefully, reviews. If I'm not mistaken, the German book market is second to USA alone... so we'll see!

Post Apocalyptic Vehicles: Technotma. The Dark Times PA novel series

Last time I promised to tell you about some of the Dark Times world machinery and vehicles. So I'll do so in the form of some extracts from the novels themselves, and I'm adding some illustrations to each fragment.

The Punch Truck (extracted from The Wastelands Clans)
The truck was great. A reinforced armored cabin with the windscreen shuttered from above and below with steel plates, the distance between their edges about a foot and a half - just enough so that the driver could see the road. The bodywork was reinforced with steel vaulting the kind they'd used in bygone days in metro tunnels. Of course, Turan had never been in the metro, but Nazar had told him all about it. The mechanic used to buy these vaults from traders whose caravans sometimes passed through the fiefdom of Boris Jai-Khan. And farmers didn't care about their provenance anyway. Quite a few hotheads were out scouring the towns' ruins and ancient catacombs for loot.

The round hole in the roof was covered with a gun turret which was capped with thick sheet steel and equipped with a gun slit. Lower, between the seats, they'd welded a shelf; if you stepped on it, your head would be just opposite the slit. Next to it, was yet another shelf equipped with steel braces to which a double-barreled carbine of heavy caliber was strapped.
Turan walked alongside the Punch. Great wagon, nothing to say. Gigantic black wheels, solid footplates. The foglights were covered with steel hoops, and the hefty exhaust pipe was sticking up behind the gun turret.

The Sander (extracted from The Barbarians of the Crimea)
I sat at the wheel and set my hands upon it. Suddenly I got the sensation of… dare I say satisfaction? For the first time since I'd woken up in the boat I felt calm and at peace with myself. And for the first time since my escape from the Inkerman Gorge, all thought of Lada Prior had left me. I squeezed the wheel tighter and turned it slightly.

In the depths of the hangar, hung between two poles on chains, was a vehicle without its hood. The unscrewed wheels lay below. The sander, I remembered: a vehicle for crossing the silt flats of the Bottomland Desert and the sands of the central Wastelands. It was squat with an open cab fashioned out of steel tubing. On the front tubes, almost above the driver's head, were three round headlights, and behind them, a machine gun was mounted.

The armored bus (extracted from Password Eternity)
A vehicle appeared on the street. It really differed from the sanders which I'd seen at the catchers' and monks' places: if those reminded me of buggies, this one made me think of a square minibus. It was completely covered in riveted steel plates, with a flat roof and a protruding rectangular hood. The windows were armored, and instead of the windscreen was a slit between two horizontal shutters.

Chuck lifted himself in his seat, studying it, and said,
"They are Medvedkovo men, may necrosis eat their livers.
All along the perimeter of the roof, steel rods had been welded, to which the main cage was attached. Behind its bars, people were sheltering. It was bristling with rifles and sawn-off shotguns. In the wheel arches hung oval steel sheets which half-covered the wheels, small for such a behemoth. A kind of DIY armored car. It wasn't apparently meant for any serious off-road experiences, more for conducting assault operations in built-up areas. Or rather, in taken-down areas. The exhaust pipe spewed smoke, the engine roared, its noise resounding far in an empty Moscow.

Military Tricycle (extracted from Password Eternity)

From the hole in the concrete fence I glanced back. I rearranged the straps of my backpack and checked if the carbide lamp was held tight on the belt. Selga Ines, Amasin, Rost and two of the fighters stood at the foot of the hill watching me. A campfire burned by the HQ tent. Between the vehicles scampered the boys from the fuel clans. One of the vehicles stood out because of its unusual appearance: like a motorbike but far bigger and with two steel barrels welded horizontally onto the sides that looked like jet turbines. Under these barrels were small wheels, like those of a regular sidecar.

THE WORLD OF DARK TIMES

The Black Sea has dried up and become the main desert, inhabited by mutated land sharks, poisonous jellyfish, strange crabs etc. In the middle of the desert is a salty remnant of the former sea where we find the city of ships. There are even some special places where very strange unexplainable things can happen, like the Magnet-Anomaly that we find in the first part of the Odnis Clans.

FIGURES, the main characters, groups etc

BEDUINS – live in the middle of the Odnis, a very dangerous place, they stay in small groups and prey on small lizards

MUTAFAGE – resembles an animal, low intelligence.

MUTANTS – anthropomorphic, humanoid, few in numbers, primitive and even more aggressive than normal humans.

FARMER – lives in areas that support agriculture, some have joined together to form the defensive league of farmers

(art by A. Didenko)

BANDITS – enough said, the name says it all really.

(art by A. Didenko)

SKYWALKERS – those that have the skill to fly light aircraft, balloons etc. Base station in Minsk, or what’s left of it after the plague, sort of resembles a giant beehive.

(art by A. Didenko)

PURITANS – a gung ho sect whose members dress in monk-like habits. They regard themselves as a cleansing unit and go around killing mutants, with their two HQ called Cathedrals in Minsk and Kiev.

(art by A. Didenko)

ARMS – Kharkov is the area where the weapons are invented and produced, although the marketing is mainly controlled by Moscow.

MOSCOW CLANS – The good guys rub shoulders with the bad guys. Greed, survival of the fittest and the criminal code of honour are the ruling order of the times. Those who've been to Moscow can easily recognize all the landmarks.

(cover art by A. Didenko)

NECROSE (fungal virus) – it appeared out of nowhere after the catastrophe, possibly from outer space, but most seem to believe that it really came from the DOMINATORS. It’s slowly but surely spreading across the entire continent, like a deadly green carpet.

DOMINATORS – very little is known about them, apart from some evidence of huge platform-like objects that occasionally appear floating in the sky

HEROES

EGOR RAZIN – Mercenary (Password: Eternity, Sandblues, Falling skies)
TURAN DZHAI – Farmer and later on Soldier (Clans of the Waste Lands, Fighter of the Waste Lands,  Falling skies )
ALBINOS – A refugee from the Crimea mountains (Barbarian of the Crimea, Sandblues – where he meets Egor Razin,  Falling skies)
VIK KASPER – Young man from a Moscow mercenary clan (Jagger, Last battle)

TECHNOTMA / DARK TIMES

Before you start to read the first chapters of Memoria, I want to talk about my co-author Andrew Levitsky and our other books, soon to be released on paper in Germany.

Two years ago me and Andrew got together and wrote an eight-novel series TECHNOTMA / DARK TIMES

Foreign rights: Germany, Italy, Spain

Technology and gloom, not two words that share good company so easily, a technological catastrophe? The end of civilisation as we know it? Life after the apocalypse? All of the above apply to this brand new bestseller series from us :)

(cover art by I. Khivrenko)

A bland territory, a sort of cross between atomic wasteland and a landscape of ruins stretching from the East Sea to the Krim, from White Russia to deep in the Ural Mountains where soldiers, farmers, mutants and bandits, only to mention but a few, survive in a world that revolves around food, oil, life and death.

The strongest gangs control almost everything, then there’s a bunch called the “Order of Purity” who are determined to wipe out all mutants. A landscape composed of piles of debris, rusty old wrecks, overgrown woods filled with mutated beasts and a sprinkling of fortified settlements under constant threat of attack from bandits.

(cover art by A. Didenko)

The survivors have banded together into various tribes and clans. Some formed religious sects and orders, some became the very influential oil corporations that produce petrol in a very primitive way.

What was the cause of such a disaster that threw the human race into a retrograde dark era where leftover values and codec’s mix themselves anew? Where technology and religion, barbarism and science, diplomacy and war intertwine and find new ways to exist side by side. A world that stands under a mixture of ruling forces that’s full of riddles and secrets.

(cover art by A. Didenko)

Technotma is a science fiction series based in a post apocalyptic world, that has fallen back into dark times. The old technological ways were lost in the demise of civilisation, to reactivate them once again simply isn’t possible, however the survivors manage to build something new that sort of works. The atmosphere reminds one of the computer game “Fallout” or the Australian film series about Mad Max. Set on Russian soil this book holds that unknown promise of an exotic flavour.

Technotma, comprising of separate books within the series that more or less indirectly relate to one another, that introduce the four main figures as they approach one another unknowingly while they solve their own challenges, but it will take the combination of all of them to solve the greatest riddle of all ... WHY DID IT HAPPEN?

The reader will get to know the four heroes one after the other. But it will not be apparent right from the start how the hatred between Turan Dzhaj and Ataman Makota will end, or what could happen in the battle between the head of the bandits and Turan, not to mention the duel between Razin and Dr. Guberta.
